So, we all know that Frosty the Snowman has graced his presence over pretty much the whole United States. Yes, it's even freezing here in Texas...not all day, but yesterday morning it was 25 degrees. I know that's like a walk along the beach for some of you. I stopped counting how many posts I saw on Instagram with pictures of temperatures, bundled clothing, snow and people dreading to step out the front door. I feel for you guys that live where the climate is in the negatives. Any of you are welcome to move here anytime. We are known as "The Friendly State" and would love to have you!
In other news, well sort of, I finally skipped out on posting or wearing a shade red or leopard today, but not the fur. I needed a change and thought that adding a pop of bright pink was my ticket to being a tad bit closer to warmer weather. Maybe the pink didn't keep me toasty, but layering this fur vest over a leather coat did the trick. By the way, this is fun way to give your fur a little more attention when coats and jackets are involved. Don't hide your pretty, furry friend, wear it over your outerwear instead.
Thank you for all the tweets, pins and comments from yesterday's post. I am hoping to share more tips, tricks and helpful hints when it comes to blogging in 2014. It's fun to share and bounce ideas off of one another. That's what the blogging community is all about. I do have one small update. I told you guys that PicMonkey was $5.00 per year. Oooops, I was wrong. It's $5.00 per month, but still 100% worth the money if you edit pictures on the daily. Sorry for the mishap.
In the random world...
1. We visited Gus last weekend. We dropped him off a week ago for bird dog hunting school. I miss him terribly. Kinda crazy considering the fact that I didn't even want him in the first place. It's pretty phenomenal how these little creatures can weasel their way into your heart. He seems to be happy and is well on his way to "pointing" at the quail. I just want my snuggle bug back. Seven weeks to go. At least I didn't curl in a corner and cry for hours when we left him again. Progress. Right?
2. My girls headed back to school yesterday after two full weeks of holiday vacation. Let me just say that 5:45 AM hit me like a ton of bricks, but I didn't crawl back into bed after they left. Again, progress. It was actually quite refreshing to have a few extra hours to get things done during the day because the last few weeks we lost a couple...as in we weren't getting out of bed until 9:00 AM.
3. Last, but definitely not least, my eldest daughter has fed us not once, not twice, not thrice, but quadruple times this season. She has brought home two turkeys, one doe and three hogs. I have asked this before and I will kindly ask again, please refrain from rude comments if hunting game isn't your thing. I am so proud of Logan's dedication these past few months. We have prepared everything she has brought home. Who could ask for anything better than grass/corn fed meat...that is if you eat meat. I understand it's not for everyone, but I had to show her off. It's my job as a mom. She is the real deal and continues to blow mind. I, for one, couldn't personally do it.

That was quite a bit of random, but I had to make up for lost time. Thanks for sticking around, if you actually read all of that. See y'all tomorrow!

Great layering Shanna! 25 is below freezing so that's cold!!! We are finally starting to have cooler temps which I am pretty excited about so I can wear some of the sweaters I have been buying.

hi Shanna, It has been a while. Let's let bye-gones be bye-gones? It is a new year and what the hey! lol Thanks for being an awesome blog host and example to blog-land.
Love those boots! We are having a typical Portland winter... 40's and rainy. :P Have a great day!
LOVE the pop of pink! And how proud of your daughter are you!? Oh my gosh! Get it girl - she rocks and is certainly putting boys her age (and some grown men) to shame! Way to go! I'm glad you guys are actually using everything she's got too because that makes it worthwhile all around!

I so love the bold stripes of that top!
Ooh! Love this! The perfect pop of color to give the cold, gray weather a run for its money!! Very inspiring too! Thanks!
This post felt like a nice little catch-up visit with a friend. I love it. Also? I love when you post about your daughter and hunting. She clearly has a passion and is going for it.

I've already downloaded 2 of the Apps you suggested yesterday, so thank you for that!
This outfit!! Love!
And 545 really is so early (I would be crawling into bed afterwards, no doubt!) but those early hours really are so nice for getting things done.
I am for one impressed that you don't look like the michelin man layering the vest over a jacket - I've tried that and failed. ADORBS!
Also, I'm super impressed at your daughter! I don't get into hunting, but I do get into knowing where your food is coming from, and what it ate before it died to feed you. it's incredible that she was able to hunt your dinner! :)

after 2 weeks and now 2 days, my kids are going back to school (we had 2 extra days off due to the weather). hopefully it's not too hard of a transition for them!
I love the pink! It looks so fresh!
We will get to 20 degrees here today. HALLELUJAH! It will feel like summer.
GO LOGAN! That's awesome. Quite an accomplishment.
Go Logan!! She is a rock start! Chris fed us on Christmas Eve and it was delicious :) We are waiting on our 6 other deer to be processed and then I think we will be drowning in deer meat!
Happy first week back to school It killed me waking up....
Miss you!!
There is a power that comes from knowing that you can provide for yourself. My parents grew up in the depression so they made sure their children had Depression/post-nuclear survival skills. In a very modern world - I still had to learn to hunt, raise chickens (and..um.."prepare" them), can food , sew and knit. While I hated every minute of it then - today I am SO grateful to my parents. There is a power and confidence that comes from knowing I can survive ANYTHING!
Your daughter will be stronger and more secure from her hunting experiences.
You look adorable! Love you in bright pink. Your little hunter has a lot to be proud of. :) Happy New Year, pretty mama!
I am loving that bright pink hat! So cute on you, Shanna! And congratulations to Logan. She is quite the little hunter these days! I am super-impressed! :)
I am loving everything about that whole outfit! Everything!
And yay for Logan!!!!
I painted my nails pink to try to conjure up a little spring, but I'm STILL out of school today.......with MORE weather on the way tonight!
I love that you love your dog! :)
I am loving everything about that whole outfit! Everything!

I am just loving that pink, black and white Shanna...such a cute look! I would miss Gus terribly too...he's such a cutie! And go Logan :)

Girl we must have been in the same mood when we got dressed the other day! Loving this outfit - and the pops of pink are so perfect! I also LOVE the pictures you post of Gus, what a sweetie!
xox
I read all of that.
And we were at -40 with the windchill yesterday so Texas is looking PRETTY DARN GOOD right now. Annnnd, I saw that hat at Walmart! very cute.
I'm so glad you got to see Gus! And the pops of pink in the outfit are just perfect–you look adorable!
EEEEK she's going to be the next big thing on the Outdoor Channel! I love when there are girls on there (my dad hunts and while I never could, I know how excited he gets and how much of a passion it is). And loving that pink; I've been listing my Coach pink crossbody on Poshmark and other sites and think I need to keep it after seeing this post!
I absolutely love this look - the pop of pink is perfect! That's a lot of alliteration there! haha
I love the fur...of course. I ordered a cream colored vest, which I'm hoping comes this week! I hope it looks as good on me ;) My kiddos started back to school yesterday. It was a good, but exhausting day! It's so hard starting back after a long vacation.
I know I've said this a million times but how cool is your daughter?? I am super proud of her Shanna! I bet Ross is beaming bigger than her face in that picture! What a fantastic picture!
my link didn't work - i guess i typed something wrong...how do I delete it so I can re-enter?
I am so not a pink person but you are quickly changing my mind. I LOVE this outfit!!!
I love that your pup is getting his training. My ex-sister-in-law has a dog similar and I really think he needs to have training to get out all his energy :)
Your daughter is amazing!! I'm not a hunter, my husband is not but his family is. I think it's awesome that she's doing all that for herself. It's a personal choice, and she clearly knows what she's doing. And I love that you are eating what she kills. That is when I get upset about hunting when it's just for trophy and the hunter doesn't eat the meat. She's so little, and so mighty!

I am too obsessed with your matching hat and purse! It makes the cold weather almost better (I said almost since it's freezing here in NJ!)
I was also off work for 2 weeks and this 5:30 alarm clock is hitting me like a ton of bricks too! It's sooo hard!!! P.S. I love your Pop of Pink!!! P.P.S. I just wrote a huge long comment and it somehow didn't publish. BOO ME! So this is my second attempt. Hope it goes through :)
Yyaya for puppy snuggles! That picture of you two is so adorable and needs to be framed on by your bedside!

I just have to tell you - I have showed my husband your daughter's hunting pictures - he is super jealous. He just returned from Rule, TX where he and his hunting partners only got one hog. I think it is extremely empowering that your daughter hunts and I'm sure it is a great bonding experience with your husband. Kudos Mom!!! ~Amy Nash
so I've decided that we must get together for a bird dog hunting date. no, I'm not kidding.
I love the pops of pink! And your daughter is awesome! I'm with you, I just couldn't do it, but good for her. Three hogs? Wow!
My favorite thing about your style, is how you layer so well!! I love the jacket with the vest that is amazing!! And the puppy is adorbs!

And it's taken me years to stop being sad when I leave my dogs with other people. It will come in time!
I'm not a fan of pink, unless it's bold and bright like that - perfect! I love that picture of you and Gus. It's so joyful!
Congrats to Logan!
Love your pops of pink! Pink makes even the coldest days better. I was ridiculously excited when I saw on Instagram you got to visit Gus. He will be back home in no time!!

LOVE that beanie and cross body bag! So cute... LOVE the pink also.
The pink is an awesome pop of colour and makes quite a statement. Kudos to you for being the proud mom, I know haters are going to hate but why can't they just refrain once. I think it is awesome that you are so willing to share your pride in your family regardless of what others may say.
Can I just have everything you're wearing in this post? Love the color combo with the pop of pink so much!
This shade of pink is my favorite color, I love how you mixed it with blacks and grays. You look great!
